Bernard's Sugar Cane Cart Wheels
1 cup shortening
1 tsp salt
3/4 cup sugar
1/2 tsp baking soda
1 egg
3/4 tsp ginger
1/2 cup Steen's Pure Cane Syrup
1/2 tsp cinnamon
2 1/4 cups sifted all-purpose flour
Cream shortening and sugar until light and fluffy. Blend in egg and syrup. Sift in flour, salt, baking soda and spices; mix well. Chill in refrigerator 1 hour. Roll out dough 1/8 inch thick on lightly floured board or pastry cloth, keeping remaining dough chilled. Cut with 3 inch cookie cutter. Bake on ungreased baking sheets at 375 degrees for 10 minutes.
YIELD: 3 dozen cookies
