The Syrup Cooker Cake
(With Chocolate)
2 1/3 cups sifted all-purpose flour
1/2 cup shortening
1 1/2 tsps baking powder
3/4 cup milk
1/2 tsp baking soda
2 eggs
1/2 tsp salt
1 cup Steen's Pure Cane Syrup
1/2 tsp cinnamon
1 square (1 oz) unsweetened chocolate melted & slightly cooled
1/2 cup sugar
Sift together flour, baking powder, baking soda, salt, cinnamon and sugar into large bowl of electric mixer. Add shortening and milk; mix until blended. Add eggs, syrup and melted chocolate. Beat 2 minutes longer on low speed. Pour batter into well greased 9 X 13 inch baking pan. Bake at 350 degrees for about 35 minutes. Cut into squares and serve with Taffy Topping*.
